Oriole Park at Camden Yards: The Vendors

Ice cold beer here!
Hot dogs! Buy a dog!
Lemonade here!
Peanuts!

I can hear the voices echoing around me.

Miller Lite, Bud Lite, Natty Boh!
Cotton candy here!
Hey… Lemonade baby!
Ice cold water!

Can you hear them?

It’s your time. It’s my time. Make it beer time!
Show me your money if you want a lemonade!
Peanuts! Get your peanuts!
Beer Man!

These are the voices and pitches of the food and beverage vendors at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. For me, these are the true boys of summer. From Opening Day through the final game of the season, these men and women work the stands nonstop, helping make a trip to a Major League Baseball game both memorable and uniquely personal.

I love watching them. I love supporting them. I love photographing them.

As our national pastime, attending a baseball game remains one of those distinctly American experiences. There is nothing quite like it. Families, friends, couples, and kids all come together for a few hours on a summer afternoon or evening, sharing the rhythms and rituals that surround the game itself. The vendors are a huge part of that experience.

How do I know?

I raised three kids on Orioles baseball. We spent countless hours at Camden Yards over the years, and every single visit seemed to include that moment when their eyes lit up as a vendor approached our section. Say what you will, but as a kid, no hot dog on the planet will ever taste better than the one handed to you by a vendor at a baseball game.

Buy the dog. The memory is priceless.

I hope you enjoy viewing these images as much as I enjoyed taking them. Candid yet intimate, these photographs capture the movement, personality, and energy of the vendors working the stands at Camden Yards. In many ways, they feel like a form of street photography without the street, documenting hardworking people who bring character and life to the ballpark experience every single game.
