Shades of Night: Colonial Williamsburg

Welcome to the official sneak peak for Shades of Night: Colonial Williamsburg, my latest book project which is currently in production. All the images in the book were captured in mid-November of 2021while on a short getaway with my sweet Sally after most of the Covid-19 restrictions had been lifted.

The theme of the book, and the images within, showcase Colonial Williamsburg at night, empty of people. The images are dark and foreboding with the only light coming from the carriage lights and candles of the homes and shops and the vintage street lights. Chilly and silent, I felt I had stepped back in time. It was walkabout like no other I have experienced.

Roadmap: June 2022

In the past, I have made the occasional roadmap blog post. With the soft site reboot, this is a blog post category that hold a lot of relevance. This is especially true when published a couple of times per year.

Change is one of the few constants in our lives. Two to three years ago saw me in a vastly different creative space than I’m in now. In a year or two, I’m sure my creative focus and interests will also be different.

Developing and updating a roadmap for one’s creative endeavors and outlets, makes a lot of sense. It’s a flexible center from which to gage accomplishments, learn, and grow. It’s can also a be a source of reflection to both see and understand the journey.

With the above in mind, here is the first in a series of roadmap posts that will hopefully be update twice a year in June and in January. Emphasis here on realistic and achievable goals.

  • Reboot BillMcNamee.com by removing blog content and starting fresh.

  • Add a News/Featured Post page to the website.

  • Tweak and update other sections of the website, including the folio images.

  • Photography, Photography, Photography, Write

  • Publish blog posts on a regular basis. Minimum goal is one to two posts per month. This will include tweaked works of older, but relevant, posts

  • Publish images to my social media feeds on a regular basis. Minimum goal is four posts per month.

  • Publish at least two photo books (digital, zine, or hardbound) between now and the end of the year.

  • Update my published book, Off Season, Cape May, New Jersey.

  • Create a store front on BillMcNamee.com to sell images and publications directly.

Please enjoy the site and stop back often. It is my deepest desire to keep the content fresh and to post and publish often.

Put That Coffee Down!!

That’s right... Coffee’s for Closers only!! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. Too long, in fact, as it’s been more than three years since I’ve updated this site or added new content. I’ve been drinking lots of coffee for sure. What I haven’t been doing, though, is closing.

This is going to change. Towards the end of last year, as COVID-19 became more managed, I started venturing back out. I began traveling again to do photography for a few projects. This year has seen the continuation of those efforts.

Over the last few years, the photography I remained involved with also evolved. My interests, style, and gear, has all changed. While I would still welcome the occasional wedding or event, I have gone back to my roots of landscape and cityscape photography with a focus on nature, macro, and urban images.

As I mentioned, my gear has also changed. While I used to exclusively shoot Canon film and digital SLRs, I now have embraced various mirrorless cameras from Canon, Sony, and Fuji. I have also jumped head first into the vintage lens pool and have amassed quite the collection of wonderful glass from the era of film photography.

With all that change… I feel it is also time to revamp and update my website. The look and feel is going to remain the same, but it is time to restart the blog and then then gradually revise and replace the folio images. The relevant blog posts will certainly return after a refresh, but some of the posts no longer represent my photography or my creative ambitions.
