Icicle Lights and Holiday Nights

Icicle lights have become part of my holiday rhythm. Every year I pick up fresh strands for the roofline, the fences, and the trees, keeping to the same style that has become tradition for me. Clear incandescent bulbs form the base, accented with red incandescent strands for a small touch of color. I never stray from incandescent lights. They have a warmth and glow that feel unmistakably like the holidays.

As a photographer, I appreciate how these lights are consumed by the night. Their glow has an intensity that the camera picks up in surprising ways. This image began as a quick snapshot, but once I brought it into Lightroom, the scene shifted. In black and white, the bulbs almost float, their cords drawing subtle lines that pull the eye through the frame. I love how they feel suspended, simple and still, adding a hint of wonder and an air of magic to an ordinary night.

It is only a strand of holiday lights, but for me it marks the start of the season and sets the tone for everything that follows. Seeing them glowing each night is a small reminder of why I look forward to this time of year.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and a very Merry Christmas!
